Why do we (I suppose more so the media) build people up to a God like status then shoot them down……the answer is of course money. That’s what sells papers, magazines and what makes news sites and blogs popular.
But who’s fault is it? The media wouldn’t publish the stuff if the general public were not lapping it up. So surely we can not blame the media for supplying the masses with information they want to read, hear and watch! Perhaps over the years we have been groomed to accept and even look for this type of information but I think the blame has to come down firmly at the feet of the multitude of brain dead people who’s lives are so sad they have to acquire information about ‘famous’ peoples lives. Whether it be reading the new style mags, tabloid papers or watching the ever increasing ‘celeb reality TV shows’.
We have become a society that is constantly obsessing about the other person grass being greener instead of working on our own lawn and being contented with it! This leads to jealousy of others and then joy when the media eventually divulges that these so called celebs are just as imperfect as everyone else….and if they cant find such stories they will simply make them up.
Seriously why waste your time being jealous and obsessively reading shite about people until eventually you can get on your high horse and say ‘Oh well I knew they were no good’ and secretly think ‘Yeh I’m just as good if not better than them’. If people like this put half as much time, effort and thought into life as they do collecting media garbage about celebs then maybe they could achieve great things and this country (the UK) would see a revival of forward thinkers, entrepreneurs and inventors.
Â
Im really sick to death with all the crap that spews forth from the various medias and the useless plebs that suck it up happily and then regurgitate it to their equally brain dead friends.
This post has of course been inspired by the recent death of Michael Jackson but has been a ranting topic for me for a while. The media built the poor guy up and applied as much pressure as possible, of course the cracks will show……anybody would crack up with that kind of pressure and attention.
Why cant we all just be happy with the genius-like music he created, why do we need to know his favourite meal, colour, where he goes shopping, etc. I mean this guy was hounded constantly; a camera in his face 24/7. No break no let up. Why? Cause the media exploit anyone they can to make a buck and people suck it up because they are lazy and wish they had the talent and money of others instead of working for it. Sad!
Well now the effect of all the pressure is evident.
Who’s to blame for Michael Jacksons death? Society!

Thanks for this post, loved it.
I truly believe that if the media hadnât hounded Michael Jackson, he would still be with us today. I was a huge fan of his during the 80s and part of the 90s (basically until Iâd outgrown that level of fandom) and everyday at school and college, people would give me newspaper clippings about MJ â some from UK, some from imported mags. I saw the media change almost overnight. He was saying that he didnât want to give interviews because he was tired of being mis-quoted and he went from being portrayed as a sensitive and shy enigma to Wacko Jacko wearing masks, sleeping in oxygen chambers, and having extensive plastic surgery. And Iâm ashamed to say it came from the British tabloids (the sniggering schoolboys that they are).
I feel that if that hadnât happened and if the public hadnât been so happy to join in kicking him, then individuals wouldnât have felt there was enough public support to take him to court with false allegations, and he wouldnât have spent the rest of his final years defending himself over and over again. Since his death, Iâve been looking at some of the coverage Iâve âmissedâ over the last decade. What a horrible way to live. Iâm surprised he made it this far. Once you call someone mad, you can get away with saying pretty much anything about them and people will think at the very least, âHmm, well maybe. I mean he is crazy after all.â Iâm really pleased to see here that there are some people who are questioning what they told and not just engaging in some bizarre public execution.
Thanks for your comment Gojogo, you are bang on the mark!
I believe in freedom of speech and the press for sure but when they just make stuff up to sell papers then something has to be done. But on the papers side a lot of the weird and wacky stories that came out were supposedly leaked by Michael Jackson’s entourage and management, if so they clearly didnt have his best interests at heart. Again you could say that this is Michaels or his families fault by surrounding him with yes men instead of someone with their feet on the ground….should’ve employed a Scotsman!
I think calling him ‘Mad’ or ‘Crazy’ is a little strong, the guy obviously had issues, liked and disliked the attention, possibly played upto and with the media and by doing so probably made things worse.
However this doesnt excuse alot of the allegations made against him which were never proven but hey mud sticks right!!
It also doesnt excuse the way he was treated by the media and the average Joe soap. We place people on this pedestal let them enjoy it for a while and kick it from under them….and if it’ll sell more papers, TV shows, DVD’s and websites kick them until they are dead.
Well rest in peace Michael. Thanks for the music…its how I will remember you!
